September 2003 - Sanmina-SCI confirms ProFlow paste
wastage reductions
DEK customer Sanmina-SCI has reported over 63% reduction
in paste wastage by fitting the latest paste low sensor
from DEK's ProFlow® DirEKt Imaging range. The company
will now upgrade its remaining three ProFlow-equipped
machines to maximise paste savings on all lines. Karl
Frabscha, of Sanmina-SCI's EMS facility in Gunzenhausen,
Germany, anticipates each machine will repay his initial
investment in the performance upgrade within 2.9 months,
and will go on to save €1,080 per month at the
Gunzenhausen site. Since its initial launch, ProFlow
has delivered paste savings by preventing the paste
becoming dry and unusable during use, and by reducing
print defects that lead to failures and rework. The
ProFlow development team then focused on enhancing system's
paste low sensor to minimise the quantity of paste left
behind in the cassette when it must be replaced. DEK's
David Foggie, ProFlow product manager, added, "Our
experimental results indicated we could reduce the discarded
paste to between 40 and 50 grams per cassette. Sanmina-SCI
is now achieving precisely this, in a commercial manufacturing
environment. Once fitted, these savings can be achieved
easily with no extra intervention by the owner or machine
operators." The new paste low sensor, Machine Performance
Upgrade part number MPU 601149*2, is available for immediate
delivery from DEK. It is compatible with all machines
fitted with software controlled and manual regulated
ProFlow transfer units, including rechargeable and cassette
types. Fitting is completed within four hours including
replacement of the paste pressure activation cylinders
and paste low sensor. The new sensor is also clean-room
compatible. Further information is available from the
ProFlow product area on the DEK website at www.dek.com.
